With the release of World of Warcraft’s 8.1 patch some changes to the file structure for World of Warcraft. This may cause some hiccups for some being able to see their addons once they have updated their game. Don’t worry, we have you covered!
This change will take place with the World of Warcraft patch update 8.1, Tides of Vengeance, that is to be released on Tuesday, Demember 11, 2018.
In some cases the Twitch App may not be able to locate the new location of your World of Warcraft executable. If this happens World of Warcraft in your Mods tab may appear greyed out.
Note: If you haven't already, please try restarting your Twitch App before moving forward with anything else. You may need to restart twice.
If that doesn't work make sure you are in the correct profile. This may change when updated. Just check to see if you are in the proper one by clicking on the profile in the upper right side next to the play and cogwheel icons. It maybe "World of Warcraft" and need to be switched to "World of Warcraft 2".
If your World of Warcraft is not showing up in the Twitch App -- don’t worry. We have your back!
First, start by going into the Mods tab in the Twitch App. Then click on the World of Warcraft icon.
Next click on the Scan Now button. This can take several minutes. So give it a few moments to complete its scan.
This will run through and try and locate your World of Warcraft executable. Once found your addons and everything should appear as normal in the Twitch App.
However, if it doesn’t locate the executable your next step is to locate it manually.
Note: We recommend you doing the Scan Now before trying the manual option.
You can do this by clicking on the Locate Game. Next you will need to locate the _retail_ folder inside your World of Warcraft folder.
Note: Make sure you have the _retail_ folder selected.
By default, for Windows, it is:
C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\
C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft\
However, some people have their hard drive partitioned or have multiple drives so World of Warcraft may be installed on a different pathing.
For Mac, you will use this location is the default:
/Applications/World of Warcraft/
If you need further help locating it you can use the Addons & Setting Locations of our guide here.
If you are looking for your addons for your Beta or PTR, and having the issue mentioned above. You will need to do the same you would for the actual game except you are going to need to locate the folders _ptr_ or _beta_ for those statuses of the game.
If you have and use the addon sync you may need to rejoin it. You can do this by click on the Sync option, and selecting the Existing Profile you want to join from the drop down under Join an Existing Profile. Then click on the Join button.
Note: Before joining any existing profile, remember to backup your Interface and WTF folders in an additional place.
If you have set up custom settings, such as preferred release type, may need to re-select those options. How to do this should be the same as the original time you have set them up.
