Twitch is taking another step to further strengthen the community and benefit streamers and viewers alike by allowing you to buy games and in-game content directly on Twitch. Partnered streamers can earn a share of the revenue from purchases that originate from their channel page, and viewers who buy can earn rewards in the form of Twitch Crates that contain surprises like emotes, chat badges, or Bits.

Earning and Opening a Crate

Some channels broadcasting game content have a button below the video screen that allows you to purchase the game or in-game items being played. Any purchase over $4.99 will earn you a Twitch Crate, a digital loot box with a special reward like a game-specific emote, a chat badge, or some Bits. Some games have custom emotes as well. If one is available for the game or in-game content you just purchased, you’ll get that in your Twitch Crate, too. The contents of each Crate are randomly generated so you never know what surprises will be inside.

Opening a Crate:
A Twitch Crate can be opened either immediately after it is purchased and delivered, or it can be opened later from your inventory page. Your inventory can be viewed by clicking on the dropdown menu in the top right corner and then clicking on Inventory, which is near the bottom of the menu. When a crate is opened, a short animation plays, and then the contents of the crate are displayed. Crate contents are available for use immediately. In the case of in-game items, you may need to connect your Twitch account to your game account to use them.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Q: How do I see all of my purchased items and unopened crates?
    • A: You can view all of your purchased items and unopened crates on your Inventory page, located by clicking the top right dropdown menu and then selecting Inventory.

  • Q: How is my purchase revenue shared with a partnered streamer?
    • A: If you see text on a streamer’s channel page that says, “Purchase revenue will be shared with [Streamer’s Twitch name]", it means the streamer has opted in to receive a share of the revenue from sales of games or in-game items originating from his or her channel page.

If you purchase a game or in-game item on Twitch by clicking a “Buy” button on that streamer’s page, the streamer will receive 5% of the purchase price less items such as, taxes or discounts. Additionally, if you visit the game details page via the “Game Details” link displayed on the streamer’s channel page and then you make a purchase from the game details page for the game you are watching, the streamer will receive the 5% of the purchase price, as long as you do not navigate to any other page before completing the purchase.

  • Q: What regions are Twitch Crates available in?
    • A:  Twitch Crates are available everywhere Amazon currently serves customers.  Some benefits may not be available locally due to legal or other restrictions.
  • Q: How many/which games and in-game items will be available at launch?
    • A: You can see the full list of available games here.
