Clip Promotion Through Recaps Spotlight
Recaps Spotlight gives Twitch Partners a way to reach new viewers off Twitch with clips they’re already creating. Turn on Promote My Clips and add clips to your Stream Recaps. Twitch may then select an eligible clip and promote it on Instagram or YouTube at no cost to you.
Promoted clips appear on social accounts operated by companies Twitch works with, not on Twitch’s main social accounts or your personal accounts. Each post includes your Twitch channel name so viewers can find your channel.
For more information, see the Recaps Spotlight announcement on the Twitch Blog.
How to Join
Who can join:
- Recaps Spotlight is available to Twitch Partners. Your account’s enforcement history can affect eligibility (see How Eligibility Works).
- You can join on web only.
- Only the channel owner can turn clip promotion on or off.
To join:
- Go to Creator Dashboard > Settings > Stream on web.
- Under Clips Settings, turn on Promote My Clips.
You may also see a prompt on your Creator Dashboard the first time you visit Stream Summary after the program launches. You can turn on Promote My Clips from the prompt, or dismiss it and turn it on in Settings later.
How Eligibility Works
Turning on Promote My Clips is the first step. Eligibility is checked every week, so to be eligible in a given week, you also need to:
- Add clips to at least 2 Stream Recaps during the program week (Monday through Sunday, Pacific Time). Clips must be added to a Stream Recap within 48 hours after the stream ends.
- Have no active enforcement on your account. Channels with an active enforcement, warning, or suspension aren’t eligible. You can check your account status in the Appeals Portal.
A Stream Recap counts toward the week it’s published, not the week you streamed. A Recap is published as soon as you add a clip to it.
As always, all streamers are required to label their streams accurately with Content Classification Labels. Clips from streams with any label other than Mature-Rated Game aren’t eligible for Recaps Spotlight.
Eligibility does not guarantee your clips will be selected for promotion. It means your clips are in consideration for that week.
How Clips Are Chosen for Promotion
There’s no formula that guarantees selection, but a few key things work in your favor:
- Clip more during your streams. Every eligible clip in a published Recap is considered, so curate the ones that best represent you. The more quality clips you have in your Recaps, the more content is in the mix to be selected.
- Add clips to more Stream Recaps. Adding clips to 3 or more different Stream Recaps in a week counts for more than the 2-Recap minimum.
- Stream in Dual Format. Dual Format isn’t required, but Recaps from Dual Format streams work in your favor. Dual Format adds a full-screen vertical version of your stream, made for mobile viewers, like the people who watch clips on Instagram and YouTube. Learn more about Dual Format.
Don’t forget to encourage your community to engage with your clips. Clips your community shows up for are the ones that stand out.
How to Leave
You can turn off clip promotion at any time.
- Go to Creator Dashboard > Settings > Stream on web.
- Under Clips Settings, turn off Promote My Clips.
After you turn it off:
- Your clips won’t be selected again. Selection stops starting with the next program week.
- Clips that were already posted stay up unless you ask us to remove them. To remove a promoted clip, contact Twitch Support and include a link to the post if you have it. The clip is removed within 24 hours of your request.
- You can turn it back on at any time. You’ll need to meet the weekly eligibility requirements again to be considered.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does being eligible mean my clip will be promoted?
No. Eligibility means your clips are in consideration for that week. Clips are selected from a large pool, so selection is never guaranteed.
Can someone else sign me up or promote my clips for Twitch?
No. The only way to join Recaps Spotlight is the Promote My Clips setting in your Clips Settings, and it’s free. Twitch will never ask you to pay, share your password, download a file, or sign in on another website to have your clips promoted. If someone offers to promote your clips on Twitch’s behalf in exchange for any of these, it’s a scam. Don’t click their links.
Learn how to spot fake offers in How Twitch Will Contact You.
Where do my clips appear?
On Instagram and YouTube. They’re posted on social accounts operated by companies Twitch works with, not from Twitch’s accounts or your personal accounts. Your channel name is always visible in the caption.
Will my clip be edited or changed?
No. Your clip’s format is adapted for each platform, but the content isn’t re-edited, no commentary is added, and your framing stays the same.
How is my channel credited?
Your channel name appears in the caption. Someone who discovers your clip and wants to check out your channel can find you directly from the post.
What content is not eligible?
These clips aren’t eligible for Recaps Spotlight:
- Clips with music
- Clips from streams with a Content Classification Label, except the Mature-Rated Game label
- Clips that have already been promoted through the program
Clips from your other streams can be selected, as long as each stream is labeled accurately.
