About Auto Clips Alpha Testing
Alpha testing features described in this article will be available to channels selected by Twitch who are streaming English-language content with VODs and clips enabled. Interested streamers can join the Auto Clips Alpha waitlist from their Clips Settings.
Auto Clips is a new tool that streamers can use to help them automatically create and publish clips of the most engaging moments from their streams, helping them save time on clip creation and editing. These clips are designed to both help your current community catch up on streams they have missed, as well as help new viewers discover great content. Twitch has now opened the waitlist to join the Alpha testing of some features of Auto Clips.
Alpha Testing Availability
You can join the waitlist for Alpha testing of Auto Clips from your Clips Settings in the Stream Settings page of your Creator Dashboard today. The Alpha testing is invite-only. If you are accepted into the Alpha, Auto Clips will be enabled for your channel, and the tool will auto-create and auto-publish clips to your channel for you. You can delete any Auto Clips and turn the feature off or on at any time. The Alpha testing of Auto Clips will only be available to channels who:
- have set their Twitch language to English
- AND have the following stream settings enabled:
- Store past broadcasts = ON
- Always Publish VODs = ON
- Enable Clips = ON
- Auto Clips = ON
We're actively adding additional features to Auto Clips during the Alpha, and will be expanding availability on an ongoing basis. We will notify you via email when you have been accepted into the Alpha.
Streamer Experience in Alpha
Creating an Auto Clip
You can create Auto Clips in two ways once you have enabled the feature:
- You can say "Twitch, Clip That" or "Twitch, Clip It" during a stream to create an Auto Clip of the preceding 60 seconds.
- Auto Clips will also help you find the most engaging moments from your stream, and auto-create and auto-publish clips with titles and captions to your channel page.
Your Auto Clips are generally viewable within 30 minutes after your stream ends.
Auto Clip Captions, Titles, & Formatting
Auto Clips helps you automatically include captions of what is being said in the clip. Captions are enabled by default for Auto Clips. You can add or remove captions on Auto Clips within 30 days of creation, just as you can for Community Clips. You can disable default captions for future Auto Clips through Creator Dashboard > Settings > Stream > Clip Settings. Auto Clips are also automatically titled using direct quotes from your stream and formatted to optimize video viewing for vertical formats. We also offer tools for you to edit and optimize your Auto Clips by adjusting the vertical cropping and customizing the titles of your clips.
Auto Clips created before July 14, 2026 have captions permanently embedded in the video and cannot be removed.
Auto Clip Notifications
Your Auto Clips are available within 30 minutes of your stream ending and you will receive both a push notification and on-site notification when your new Auto Clips have been created and published to your channel. Please ensure that you are opted into receiving notifications from "Clips of Your Channel" in the "On Twitch" and "On Mobile" setting options.
Your Clips, Your Content
You and your editors can delete your Auto Clips just like you can with other clips. During the Alpha, you can edit the clip title and portrait clip layout. Additional editing features will be available in the future. Auto Clips are your User Content under Twitch's Terms of Service. As a reminder, you are responsible for your channel content and for complying with Twitch's Community Guidelines and Terms of Service, including when you create clips of your content using Auto Clips.
Exporting & Downloading Auto Clips
Auto Clips can be exported and downloaded, as with your other clips. This helps you surface your most engaging content to both existing viewers and new audiences on other platforms.
Viewing Auto Clips
Your Auto Clips will appear alongside other clips on Twitch. Viewers can watch them just like any of your other clips, and under a clip's title they will see "Auto Clip by [Streamer's Username]" to indicate when they are viewing a clip you created using Auto Clips.
Providing Feedback on Auto Clips
You can review Auto Clips both in your Stream Summary and in your Clips Manager, where you can provide feedback on the Auto Clips or delete them. We encourage you to let us know what you think of your Auto Clips so that we can continue to improve their quality based on your feedback.
What's Next?
During the Alpha, we'll gather feedback from streamers to continue to improve the Auto Clips functionality and prepare for a full release. We are adding additional features for our next release, including a review flow that will allow streamers to review clips prior to publishing them. Stay tuned for updates.
