Screen is staying black.

Lemonsausage Mar 05, 2013 02:24PM PST

Hello.

I've downloaded Open Broadcaster Software and followed this guide; (http://support.twitch.tv/discussion/7452/streaming-with-obs-open-broadcaster-software)

But my screen stays black and I can't figure out why. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the guide itself because it's always been black but thought I'd toss a link to it in any case.

Thanks in advance,

Viktor

Did you check to make sure you have a source to your scene? If you are using window capture, make sure that you are playing in windowed mode. Use the game capture if you want to play in full screen. Also make sure that you right click on the source and click properties. In this new window, check to make sure that you have the right program/window selected for what you want to record.

Lemonsausage,

Can you paste your scene config somewhere? I'd try adding some text and seeing if you can see that (make sure to make the text color yellow or something bright!) You need to press "preview stream" before it actually shows up.

OR

If you mean while live, your screen is black, you may have a full screen program or game that needs to be set to windowed or borderless (for league) mode. These programs can also be captured using the built in game capture/window capture if they are full screen.

Hope that helps!

Hello and thanks for the answers!

I'm currently using Game capture since it seemed most logical..

I made a few screen shots of some configurations to try to help you guys identify the problem;

The main problem I am having with OBS is that when I create a Game Capture Source for my scene to record full screen gameplay, it doesn't record the gameplay and the screen is just black when I try to stream it. Does any one know how to fix this??

Make sure Fraps or another capture software isnt already running. This was my problem and turning off other capture software fixed it.

If you get a black screen in your stream you need to tell OBS what window to stream.
Do this by starting your game/program/webpage.. or any window you want to broadcast.
If you started a full screen game, Alt-Tab to windows and go to the OBS program. Under "Source" you should have a name. Right-click this and go to properties. In the new window that opened go to Application: YOUR game/program/webpage.
Choose in the scroll list the window you want to broadcast, hit OK and you should be set.

If you go with the hotkey, make sure you hit that hotkey when you're ready to broadcast, else it going to stay black!.

right click the "scenes" and add new scene
right click "sources" and add

- game capture if you're playing a game
- video capture if you're video taping yourself as well
- text capture if you want to have some text scroll across

etc
