Constantly lag/buffer for EVERYONE IN EUROPE!

laxzzi Jan 19, 2014 09:20PM PST

Twitch, isnt it about time to fix your shit? For several months now the whole freaking Europe has issues due to stream lag/buffer. And when finally this genius comes with an addon to our browser so we can use US servers wich contains no lag/buffer, and THEN you "fixed" that, so now it doesnt work anymore.

Cant handle other random people doing a better job than you guys? Come on. Give us some updates on this issue. Its really about time!!!!

All my friends (IRL and online) who uses Twitch has the same issues. I got 40/40 fiber connection. i7-3770k@3,9Ghz, 16GB 1600Mhz RAM, GTX 770 and running OS on SSD. So my computer or internet connection is not the issue here.

You seem to answer everyone else than the ones having this issue.

The twitch is not working good any more for me. Since the last days, the stuttering and laggspikes has been horrible. When you watch a stream, it can work seamless for a few seconds, then stops up and loads in for 10-20 seconds before streaming for a few seconds again. This is just horrible and simply unwatchable. Not sure why this is, because it was working fine for some days ago.

+1... I'm using a wired 50/15 line (no WiFi on my PC) and it lags like crazy. I can't watch more than 30-120 seconds without it buffering for like 5-10 seconds. Every other streaming and VOD sites work flawless with 1080p stereo. Twitch on the other hand, both VODs and streams lag.

+1 for this. Twitch used to be bad when big LOL tourneys were streamed, and only for live streams then... I can relate to that. But nowadays, EVERYTHING lags EVERYTIME. I usually watch VODs of streams from people, and I get horrible stutters. I downloaded "Freemeter" (google it) to watch my inoming traffic, and it just stops for seconds.

Even then, I used to just switch to my VPN in canada (btguard) to watch it from the US servers, since they gave me around 300-400% of the bandwidth I got from EU servers.. but recently, I am UNABLE to watch twitch over my VPN.

It just fails with "unable to load video for selected quality. please issue an report".

Can we please get some answers here?

+1.

Really, twitch, if you don't want us to watch, just block european IPs. Because by disabling the chrome extension, you effectively did just that.

With the extension, I could watch streams with barely any lags or buffering. Since you blocked it, twitch has become COMPLETELY unwatchable. When I'm lucky, I can watch streams for maybe 2-3 minutes before huge lags occur, but usually, the stream starts buffering every 30-60 seconds.

"And when finally this genius comes with an addon to our browser so we can use US servers wich contains no lag/buffer, and THEN you "fixed" that..."

Exactly this. I have a good and stable internet connection, but Twitch was always laging, the only thing making it possible for me to watch streams in 1080p without lag, was the Twitch Lag Fix addon, now that it has been "fixed" I can't watch any streams anymore. Every quality setting lags like crazy with 10 sec freezes every 5 seconds. It is literally unwatchable.

A bit of information, if this is ever going to be fixed, would be nice. (or just make that damn addone usable again...)

Might as well block it for whole EU since nothing will be done anyways except for removing fixes from other people who actually do something right.

Buffer every 5-10 seconds on every quality from source down to mobile. This is complete garbage. 25down 5 up should be more than enough to not buffer that often. Every other site with streaming video works FLAWLESSLY. Not even VODs on twitch are free from this buffering.

I have the same problem here in Ireland. And have have had this problem for the most part the last month.
If I remember correct I didn't have this problem much in Desember (a bit but not much), and when I lived in Norway (until November 28th), I barely had any problems from your side. Mostly just small problems on my side like browser extensions, cache etc.

Been watching streams on twitch for a VERY long time so I know most tricks to get it to work but I can't find ANY way to make the streams work 100% here in Ireland, and lately I have not been able to watch streams at all because of constant buffering problems and also sometimes the LCS stream (Only one I remember this happening) seem to "replay" some moments here and there.

ISP: UPC Ireland 120/10
Browser: Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox (tests with IE sometimes, no extensions) updated extensions etc.
Computer specs: Better then needed for a twitch stream.

I have the same, and finally decided to google my problem and have come across many threads like this. I think I'll have to just stop watching Twitch.tv and hope one day they can fix it. The fact they disabled the add-on for Chrome that actually stopped my lag is the big killer here. I think if I had just always lagged then I'd accept it, but the fact that something came out that actually fixed it for me for a few months is the biggest issue. Oh well. Just incase anyone in Europe was annoyed because they couldn't watch LCS, then it also streams on Youtube and there isn't any lag there. NACL also streams on Azubu and there isn't any lag there either. Hope that helps.

this is just soo ridiculous, i cant watch anything on stream...during the LCS...i always use azubu...coz twitch is just un-watchable

and the saddest thing about this post is Twitch doesn't give 2 shits, they are already big and are makin way too much money than they can imagine...ppl are still streaming and ppl are still watching...even tho its not europe they dont care, money is still rolling in for them...the only way this would be a problem was if ALL European streamers stopped streaming....exactly not gonna happen lol

I've been lucky it seems and am only having this issue quite recently. Since about mid-January 2014 in fact. some weeks I simply can't stream anything, I can watch but it buffers every few seconds. BT Infinity 2 connection, averages about 10 download/8 upload. I can understand focusing on the most 'busy' sector for Twitch.tv which is the US player base, but surely given the size of Europe that could only be a good thing to include?

And if there's no intention with regard to actually fixing whatever it is that's wrong with the EU stuff for Twitch, then why disable that extension for Chrome which fixed it? We like streaming too, and we like watching streams. I thought that was the idea?

It's sad to say but unless this gets sorted out I may have to seek alternatives elsewhere. There aren't many but if this is the continued stance of Twitch; silence on these matters and apathy with regard to making it EU friendly, a competitor will no doubt start up, a competitor based in the EU, and then we'll all bugger off to that one.

I live in Australia, I get 700kb/s download speed and could watch streams fine before post January 2014, and now I cannot.
Is there something I can do to watch them again? They just buffer after like 10-20 seconds and it is completely unwatchable.

Never got any lag issues before Twitch.tv changed to all the Low/med/high stuff. Then it started getting worse and worse. Most stream, unless it's something like LoL championship, simply lag every 10 seconds for 10 seconds. Unwatchable.

Whats the point of subscribing to channel then?

I have 20mb/2mb internet and yet is lags so much! No problems with any other streaming sites (Youtube etc.)

FIX THIS FOR CHRIST SAKE!

This just started happening for me as well today. Yesterday all was fine, could watch 5 streams at the same time without a single hiccup. Today, can't even open one single stream without it either buffering or getting stuck at "Loading video...". Changing quality doesn't help either.

But fix the issue yourselves, having to use 3rd party browser addons is not a solution!

This is getting quite ridiculous, I was even thinking about subscribing to some streamers but I can't watch streams, it's so frustrating.

This has nothing to do with Europe. I'm from the U.S. and my streams constantly have been buffering for the last month or so. I have 30/3 connection and used to be able to watch source no issues.

They obviously don't give a shit or they wouldn't be ignoring every thread about this & there are LOADS of them. I personally refuse to support a company who doesn't give a shit about it's customers or even bother to acknowledge it's problems. So Until this is fixed, Twitch won't be receiving a single penny from me.

There are some things to try

1: Right click the stream - Hit Options -> Click the Adobe Folder and set the local storage to 10mb

2: Use en.twitch.tv

3: Download an extension like Ghostery for Chrome, which could help.

I just tried all 3 and suddenly I haven't had a single pause in a live stream.
