"R9K" Mode?

mrsinji Aug 17, 2013 11:29PM PDT

Just a question, I was moderating Ennopp112's chat the other night and he had just broken the WR for majoras mask. Then i see the admin "Hassan" enter the chat and the room got put into "R9K" Mode. Obviously this was the admin doing this so i'm just wondering what R9K mode is/does...

R9K mode is a new spamfilter put into place on Twitch's own servers, which removes any non-unique messages above 9 characters. Basically, every message that's identical, and bigger than 9 letters, will not display on the chat.

Mods/broadcasters/admins can turn on and off this new beta.

It currently also limits both moderators and bots though, so it will break most bots in existence currently.

Best wishes

Presumably it's a mode that follows the ROBOT9000 rules, a mode coined for the XKCD chat. The main rule being you can only say unique sentences, so multiple people can't repeat the same thing, i.e. if somebody says "Well done", nobody else can say "Well done" while R9K mode is active.

this is seriously retarded. i see people spamming "ching chang chong" when a korean gets interviewed. or "copi pasterino". and i cant say something like "pm me for the song names between games" without the retarded r9k bot saying my message is not unique. r9k bot is the dumbest bot ever

I think this is the begin to move to youtube. The important on twitch is comment the video, when something relevant happens how a massive kill on a moba u cant comment things like " team X disband" ,"322 confirmed", etc.

Sorry for digging this up, but is this actually implemented the way it says on XKCD, with the messages having to be unique for the entire life time of the channel?
