stream not loading

helllyeahh Jul 26, 2013 04:29AM PDT

As of today I can't open any streams. I have adblock disabled, but it just won't load after the initial ad. I can see how many people are watching the stream, but it's stuck on an old frame.

I have this same issue, but specifically just with that Halo Spartan Assault ad. That ad runs very slow and jittery and all I see is a black screen after it's done. If I refresh until I get a different advert, everything works fine.

I got the exact same problem. I don't even have adblock installed. The only thing I can see is chat and the ads. I can also watch videos/highlight.

All the live streams get stuck on loading video and just show a grey screen with live in the top right corner. I tried it with chrome, firefox, IE, also cleared all the caches/cookies I can think off. Even reinstalled flashplayer. But it still gives the same problem.

I doubt it is a network problem, since another computer on the same router does show the streams.

Hi, my viewer has tis problem, too. Tewy can't open my Channel, or my Profile,

the only thing u wil see is
"running" in the top left corner of the white browser TAB.

me by myself can open my stream while i'm streaming if i use some different links, so enter this page, like from my dashboard, my message or my favorite following.

Next problem is sometimes the Website design is the new one , sometime the older.

it switches permanently.

I have the same problem. The streams won't load on my pc (no matter what browser and despite clearing cache etc.). But the streams work on my tablet using the twitch app. So it has nothing to do with internet service provider, bandwith etc. The problem arose about the same date that all other here have experienced it from - somewhere late July.

@adihashs It’s a problem for a small percentage of viewers. This is the help site, so you’re going to see a lot of questions here, more so than the average user (who doesn’t ever need to come here)

Another thing I just found out that maybe lead to you solving the problem if other people have exactly the same problem as I.

to sum it up with examples:

I _can't_ watch:
or any other user channel directly

I _can_ watch:
what there is currently being shown.

Also for example I can watch stuff on twitch over "!/live" where they have small windows of the streams of twitch.

So, the problem is definitly from twitch. Since I can watch streams if I use other sites that just catch the stream window.

Hope this helps you to solve this problem that many people recently got.

Hey, since today I also can't get any stream to load except for the main stream on "" but also if I switch to the channel page of the mainstream shown on "" it will also no longer load.

I changed nothing on my system since yesterday, also checked if there were auto-updates but there were none.
So my conclusion would be that its not working because you changed something.
Another bit of evidence would be that I can still see the main stream on "" but not the channel page, for example right now that would be - - -

on the main page from its working but not on this URL - for me.

Just got this problem today. Was watching twitch this morning perfectly fine. Loaded up a stream when I got home a few hours later and the screen was stuck at "Loading channel data..." with a gray screen. Been trying for a couple of hours and no luck. Chat loads but stream doesn't. Text at the bottom of the browser says it's "Transferring data from" and as soon as I go in another tab and go back it says stopped. Front page streams load fine and I can watch VOD's. Tested it in another browser and it does the same thing. Cleared cookies, cache, logged out, disabled add-ons, restarted router, restarted computer. Nothing. Tested streams on the mobile app and Xbox app and they load fine. My ISP is TWC.

Any progress on this issue? I have been without streams for about two or three weeks now and I'm really starting to get annoyed.

What I have tried:

4 Different Browsers
Clearing Cache
Opening ports,
Restarting Computer and Router
Private Browsing
Signed Both in and Out
Turning off Ad-Block
Deleting Cookies
Reinstalling Flash

Additional Information:
It is a computer issue, not a network issue because my brother can watch streams fine on his computer and I can watch them on my iPod. My tracert goes to the 5th server before it starts timing out. This happened to me the day after I downloaded a proxy server (coincidence?), also I can watch VODs and ads will load but streams will not.

P.S. I have filled in the form already.

The strange thing is that I've never had any problems with Twitch until it just randomly decided to load any streams for me. The chat always seems to work fine though.

Aaron that solution doesn't seem to work for me either. Maybe it is because of the older version of Chrome I'm using or just because it's a Mac. Regardless, is there any way of this problem being fixed sometime soon? Hey everyone, had the same problem as described above. I'm not too technologically savvy so I'll try to explain as best I can.

I'm on Windows 7 (64-bit) using Mozilla Firefox. My problem was Adobe Flash wasn't up to date. I'd always see this strange red lego looking thing in the corner that I had to click in order to get videos, streams, etc to play. I had Adobe 10.3 I believe, I needed 11.8 which you can get from;

Get Adobe Flash 11.8, enable cookies, log in, and it should work. It did for me, I hope this helps.

I'm assuming most of the people here who have this problem and have an outdated version of flash player don't have the luxury of upgrading to the latest version due to whatever reason. I know for me my computer is really old and most program updates aren't supported on my computer. Nonetheless, I have never had a problem with twitch and watching streams before this occurred a few days ago. Old macs use powerPC processors, which are unfortunantly incompatible with most new software, which includes newer flash players. This requirement for a new flash player is needed for us to move forward with HLS. If you want to try using just our HTML5 player using safari, you can try You should not need flash player for that.

If anyone can check that with an older mac (I don’t have one) I’d appreciate it so I can see if that’s a solution to suggest for future old mac users.

I've been using twitch for awhile now, subscribe and pay a monthly fee to the players I enjoy watching, and yet now because I don't want to go spend $2000 on a new computer I can't ever again watch twitch stream again. There is no reason why I can watch the stream on the opening page with my old flash player and not any other stream. I can't wait to see twitch fail as a company and a new company move in that actually puts time and effort into their website.

Hi Aaron Clay, I tried that solution and it says "unsupported player" and does not load, I tried with various streams and all say the same thing. This seems to be mostly a MAC issue as I read some of the comments up top.

I too am running MAC 10.5.8 OS and I can't upgrade my flash unless I buy a newer OS , we can't download chrome either.

This seems to be something you guys updated a week ago, because it was working fine until it just randomly decided to not load. The funny thing is videos load on the main page and you can see them, but once you click it, it does not load, also if embed the video and paste it somewhere else I can watch it fine but have to go back and forth between the chat which is what I been doing for now. works fine, youtube works fine, ect , it's something you guys recently decided to update that has pretty much screwed all the older MAC users over.

I can't upgrade my OS until Janurary or so , so it looks like embeding twitch videos is my only hope of watching them unless you guys figure out what you did on your end on the update a week or so ago.

Dang. I have Mac OS 10.5.8 too, that's gotta be the problem. Gosh dang it this is getting annoying, I guess if you want to do anything you have to get a new laptop every 4 years >_> I've recently been told my mac is too old to download flash, dota 2, and chrome internet browser.

Aaron, your link just lead to a page saying "This channel has been closed" and "Content from this channel has been removed at the request of the copyright holder."

I'm running Mac OSX 10.5.8 and have been experiencing the same problems. The HLS solution, unfortunately, does not seem to work for me---I get the message "Player not supported." I think we who are on outdated systems might be SOL here . . .

If nothing else, this serves as an additional motivation for me to upgrade to a new computer (the one I use currently is five years old now).

Thanks for all your help, Mr. Clay.

This is clearly incorrect as my old channel wont play live stream.

yet my new one does, clearly there is either something wrong or you lot have no idea why it is doing it.

Same issue on the mediaplayer devices.
All this progression is nice and all but devices that cant be upgraded like most mediaplayers are unable to follow

I have a boxeebox that uses Linux 32bit and flash 11.2
And since this week streams can no longer be watched on it

I'm guessing that goes for a LOT of other mediaplayers and devices that cant just simply update flash

Nothing you suggest works for me. Why can't you guys just undo whatever you did to cause this problem. I guess I'm done watching twitch.

We’re looking at the future of streaming, which happens to not be RTMP based players. It’s unfortunate, and I wish I could give you more options. You may be able to use software called livestreamer with VLC in order to watch streams without using Flash player.

For someone with an older macbook, if you download and install chrome (can you do that?) does that work? Macs used older PowerPC processors, which are not compatible with a lot of software, and are often criticized for being so. I’m willing to work with you guys to see if there’s other solutions out there, but in order to move forward with updating to HLS, a very old version of flash was rendered incompatible.

I too run OS 10.5.8 and have not been able to load streams for a week or so. Chrome is currently not compatible with this operatig system. I can't say it is unfair or surprising that this now outdated operating system is no longer supporting Twitch streaming. However, as I am subbed to several steams that I can no longer view, I would appreciate knowing if this is an issue Twitch intends to address or if I need to suspend my subscriptions until I can update my operating system.

F.Y.I. What I believe to be the most recent version of flash my operating system can run ends on .90 via your test link above.

Unfortunately, we can not install chrome...

As a potential solution, can you give us the option of replacing the player with the version for embedding? Having tried it with firebug, it works... Maybe there could be a switch button after 5-10 seconds of 'Loading channel data'.

Here's the kicker, Mac's 10.5.8 is too old for the newest version of chrome. I tried to do it the other day. Did anyone else have this problem too?

"In order to move forward with updating to HLS, a very old version of flash was rendered incompatible"

I don't believe that at all. If that's true, can you please explain why the main page or embedded streams still work? For instance, if I go to I can view that stream fine. However, viewing the stream on your site doesn't work at all. It seems unnecessary to block an older version of flash (that a lot of people are still stuck with) when the site works fine on it.

I have a Mac with OS 10.5.8 as well and I still have a older version of chrome . If I remember correctly chrome has it's own version of flash built into it. When I use the older version of Chrome the twitch stream loads for me. Google Chrome 14.0.835.202 is the version I still have but never use until now.

The "" does NOT work with older macs. I've been running into these same issues, have filled out the form, and have tried this suggestion and it is not working and says "Unsupported Player" when loaded.
