Same issue, started about a week ago. Sometimes closing my browser for a while and reopening will allow me to connect to chat and once Im connected it stays connected so long as I dont leave the stream page.

Info http://swiftor.com/livefiles/jtvapi/libs/GetBrowser.php

I sometimes stream path of exile and do not have the same problem with the in game chat client, so its not an issue when I am streaming, but it is when I'm trying to participate in someone else's stream.

Too bad that means I have to manually log in every time until this blows over.

keener31: Jul 26, 2013 08:46AM PDT

updating for my case.

-closed all chrome windows, opened 1 tab to google homepage
-in chrome settings -> advanced -> content settings -> cookies -> all cookies and site data (button) -> hit "remove all" button
-cleared browsing history (in chrome, all checkboxes ticked aside from "form data" and "username/passwords")

closed chrome

reopened

signed back into twitch and chat was/is functional for the first channel i popped into - before hitting submit on this comment i opened a second to confirm, and second channel is NON-functional.

closed both tabs/channels - upon re-entering, BOTH channel's chat were non-functional.

it would appear that clearing cookies/cache worked, but as soon as new cookies/cache were created, everything went FUBAR.

---------

cleared cache again (without closing chrome). - attempted to reproduce above scenario (1 working chat, then all failing) -- currently all chats are functional. i wanted to grab the debug from the first chat i entered and then the second (assuming the first would work and the second would not) - but all chats are working.

---------

cleared cache a 3rd time.

unable to reproduce chat glitch. all chats are now connecting. the following is the (working) debug of a current chat join: http://pastebin.com/K86mLzkN

---------

current recommendation to others: clear your cookies and cache, then try a few channels. if youre still having trouble, rinse and repeat. if after a handful of times its STILL occurring, then for now it looks like incognito is at least a functional workaround (though that still points to local cache/cookies being the problem)

I seem to be having same problem but it might have something to do with the flash. I always use flashblock to much flash on websites makes them painful and to me its unacceptable. Anyways I turned flashblock off for a couple mins to see if I can connect to chat and sure enough I connected no problem. So i thought hmm weird let me try it again with flash blocked and bam cannot connect. So it seems to me that flash is breaking chat and I.M.O. disabling flashblock is unacceptable and not an option for me. So please take a look at that and let the community know when a fix can be applied.
Up -72 rated Down
Aaron Clay: Twitch Staff Jul 26, 2013 12:56PM PDT
We use flash fairly extensively on the website, and you should whitelist the site on flashblock. It's unfortunate if you feel that is unacceptable, but that's what you need to do if you want to have the site working for you.

Up -44 rated Down
Aaron Clay: Twitch Staff Jul 26, 2013 04:06PM PDT
There is a known bug with web chat not loading and giving you the disconnect message. Some users report it can be fixed by logging off then clearing both cache and cookies, and then relogging.

As far as IRC is concerned, there is a bug with mod not being set, user lists not getting updated, and new Twitch users not being able to connect to IRC.

Oddly, my chat is functional until I attempt to type anything. I can see what others are saying, but trying to say anything myself causes the chat to fail, and I need to wait for increasing amounts of time before it becomes possible to see the chat again. I've tried all solutions offered: clearing cache and cookies, incognito window, restarting computer, nothing has worked.

I've been issuing with this problem since 1-2 weeks and can't get it fixed.
I only watch streams and often say something in the chat, but now since the 1-2 weeks I keep getting the message:
"Sorry, we were unable to connect to chat. Reconnecting in * seconds."

And it just wont go away! In Chrome the chat doesn't load at all (error above); in FireFox I get the same and in Internet Explorer I can see what people say but if I try to say something (back) it gives me the same message as above. I always work in Chrome, so when I installed FireFox it was just clean and not used before, but still got the error message (same for IE).

The browser information thing:
FireFox: http://puu.sh/3PQyX.png
Chrome: http://puu.sh/3PQzU.png
IE: http://puu.sh/3PQAF.png

The "wait-8-hours" doesn't work for me, neither does clearing history and cache. Any suggestions what to do next?

If you spammed and got this message, it will last 8 hours, and cannot be manually lifted.

I am getting this message all day after putting a message in the International 3 chat, the mods banned every single message going into the chat. I am now not able to moderate for a number of streams I am supposed to be a part of. I also noticed massive number of views drop due to the universal banning in TI3 chat. I am a super regular Twitch user... so I dont care. But imagine out of 180k viewers how many are NEW. And they say "LODA!" and get perma banned for hours. This sounds like you dont understand what that does. It literally offends tens of thousands of brand NEW eSports fans. I watched as mass banning started and 30k and more left the game before it was over. I think that the problem needs to be fixed. And that MOD trolling should be eliminated. Porn links and giant penises.. we understand... but cheering fans being told to STFU... .... ... .... ... you should know better... we have a bubble here... .... .... ... ...
Up -18 rated Down
Aaron Clay: Twitch Staff Aug 12, 2013 11:16AM PDT
@tredogz, mods didn't kick every message in the chat, a good number of copy paste and !giveaway spam messages were deleted. Almost all of the kicks were from bots automatically removing posts that met spam criteria.

@hase282 we should have an update on this later today on @twitchtvsupport

I've also been getting this a lot for the past 5-6 weeks. Sometime can be locked out of chat for hours, with multipul pages full of "Sorry, we were unable to connect to chat. Reconnecting in 0 seconds."

We're putting out our fix soon™ (as soon as it's verified by engineering to not break everything)

If you were using betterTTV, this caused a lot of users to get disconnected due to a programming error on the developers part. The developer claims that the error is fixed, and after the 8 hr lockout period you should be able to use chat again.

I'm getting dropped off chat on Chrome, Firefox, and IE. IRC will connect but then just instantly disconnects. When I log onto a channel the second I talk it drops and says reconnecting.

This error is obviously impenetrable. you say engineers are going to give us an update but i have seen nothing updating the situation regarding this issue. so far just by looking at this says that the support staff are more eager to solve problems then the developers. I am getting the same issue. information is a lot less then needed. We need an update on this. urgently.
Sincerely,
Hailfire

There was a fix with oauth persisting across multiple sessions, but after that was patched, the issue is still happening (likely due to a crossdomain configuration being wrong in cache, but the session still being active.

Well, the chat is still not working and it's been like a whole week. This is absolutely ridiculous. I tried to stream something today and I had to abort the whole thing because the chat wasn't working.

Aaron, i'd just like to post after reading through & noticed you posted about clearing history/cache it was one of the things i tried.

Worked & chat box has been enabled again.

Few things i did as well, my browser had not been closed in quite some time.

-Updated google chrome.
-cleared history & cache.
-restarted chrome/relaunched
-verified my twitch email.

Not saying it was for sure these things above, but they are the things i did in order to gain access again.

Thanks for the help!
