Exceeding max length of 5KB

How much data does broadcasting streams take?

kevincocodota Jul 05, 2013 03:01AM PDT

Hi guys, I was just wondering if I have 150gb of net per month, how long would I be able to broadcast for? I've broadcasted in the past before and I've been capped, I need to know this so I would know how often I would broadcast for or even to broadcast at all.
Thanks

I suggest using variable bitrate for this, as streaming does take quite a bit of bandwidth. What bitrate are you using? Just convert bits to bytes (8 to 1) and then figure out how many seconds you're streaming.

For example, 400bits/sec is 50KB/s, so if I streamed for 1 hr (3600 seconds) that would be 180,000KB, or 180MB.

Thanks for using Twitch! If you have 30 seconds, we would really appreciate if you could fill out a short survey on your customer support experience: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/5DCJ8DC

@cement2000 There is no minimum to the bitrate but higher the bitrate = higher the quality of your stream.. Play around with the bitrate to find a decent looking image but not too high to exceed your bandwidth cap in no time!
