Broadcasting with FFSPLIT

FFSPLIT is a freeware program that allows you to stream or record your desktop and games in different high quality video formats.

NOTE: The keyframe interval is hardcoded to 2 to meet Twitch and YouTube standards.

  1. After download and installing, you are prompted to download and install ffmpeg. Click OK to proceed.
  2. FFSPLIT opens the Service setup dialog. Click Connect with Twitch.
  3. FFSPLIT opens the Twitch Application Authorization page for you in your default browser. Click Authorize.
  4. The Twitch Authorization Code displays. Select and copy the code.
  5. Paste the code into the FFSPLIT popup window and click OK.
  6. FFSPLIT automatically retrieves your stream key and finds the best server for you.
  7. Click the Encoder tab.
    • Bitrate Mode: Constant (CBR) (You must use this for Twitch)
    • Video Resolution: Preferred resolution are 1280x720 (720p) or 1920x1080 (1080p) but you are free to change it.
    • Video Bitrate: Maximum bitrate: 75% of your upload or 3500 kbit, whichever is lower.
    • Recommended bitrates for common resolutions:
      • (720p > 2000kbit)
      • (1080p > 3000kbit)
    • Framerate: user preference (30 fps recommended)
    • Audio Format: user preference
    • Audio Bitrate: maximum of 160kbit for AAC / maximum of 128kbit for MP3
    • Channels: user preference (stereo recommended)
  8. Click the Session tab and check the newly created Service profile. FFSPLIT informs you if the encoder profile is in line with Twitch's quality standards.
  9. Click OK. FFSPLIT is now set up and ready for use!
  10. Click Start to start streaming.
